Every year 30,000 people descend on the Spanish town of Bunol, in the Valencia region of Spain. They threw more than 240,000 pounds of tomatoes at each other.

The festival on the last Wednesday of August is called 'the Tomatina' and is basically a town-wide tomato fight. It is thought the tradition began in 1945 when a fight erupted among two young members of a carnival.

A vegetable stall was nearby in the town square and every started throwing the tomatoes at each other. And one year later, young people met at the square, but this time with their own tomatoes. Another food-fight started but was broken up by police.

In the following years this practice was banned by the authorities, but due to popular demand was given official recognition in 1959. This was only to occur if participants would respect the start and the end of tomato-throwing being announced with a banger.

Bull Running in Spain

There are more than 3,000 festivals each year in Spain but the 7 days of bull-running are the favorite in terms of scene and excitement.
There are Buffalo racing festival in Thailand but it is different from bull running in Spain because when the festival happen, they ride a buffalo and control the buffalo to run very fast.
We do not do like that in Spain but we run away because the bull is very moody.
The purposes of both festivals are not similar. Bull running wants an excitement and it is very dangerous when the fierce bull runs follow you. The other is the more safe than bull running because the purposes of this festival are finding the winner of the buffalo that are the fastest in the competition.

Flamenco is a folk art from Southern Spain. The singers' role is very important with the guitar playing. Flamenco exists in three forms. There are Cante : the song, Baile : the dance and Guitarra : guitar playing. Flamenco dance has complex patterns of rhythm and refined footwork with the upper body.
I Think Flamenco look like a local dance in Thailand. Ram-Wong looks so graceful. On the other hand flamenco is very mirthful.

In Thailand, there are many entertainment and celebration. Do you know "Ram-Wong". It is Thai dancing which are very famous in Thailand. We can see Ram-Wong all festival.

:+: Bull Fighting In Spain :+:

This is the festival that so famous in Spain. Everybody know this festival. In this fest, you can see many kinds of people around the world from other cultures. It seems like "Wing Kwai" in Chonburi, Thailand. It is a fun festival in the Eastern of Thailand. You will find a power of Thai Buff like Spanish Bule in Spain. And you will find "Thai smile" from local citizen here. Although it makes buffs was so tired, but it make them more powerful. Because the racing buffs have to race fast for the win, while Spanish Bule have to fight with Matador for stop the show (Bull Fighting in Spain, is seems like a job for a Matador)

Bull fighting is very closely associated with Spain. The first bullfight took place in celebration for the crowning of King Alfonso VIII. It is very popular in Spain. There are a lot of people watching bullfights in Spain, about one million every year.

The bull is let into the ring. Then the top bullfighter called the Matador, watches his chief assistant wave a bright yellow and magenta cape in front of the bull to make it charge. He watches this in order to determine the bull's qualities and mood, before taking over himself.

Then a trumpet is sounded and several fighters called Picadores weaken the bull by placing spears into it. This takes around 10 minutes.

Another trumpet is sounded and the Matador now removes his black winged hat and dedicates the death of the bull to the president or the crowd before beginning his faena.

This is a show, basically a dance with death - one wrong move and the Matador could become impaled on the horns of the bull. It is the Matador's job to make this dance dramatic and enjoyable for the audience.
